Hazard Selection

Hazard Selection from Library

Tab 5 of the creation wizard allows you to browse and select hazards from a comprehensive library of over 100 pre-seeded entries. The hazard library is shared with the RAMS module (+£99/month addon), ensuring consistency across all safety documentation.

HazardSelector Component

The HazardSelector component presents the full hazard library in a browsable, searchable interface. Hazards are grouped by department, and each entry can be toggled on or off with a checkbox to include it in the phase plan.

Hazard Information

Each hazard entry contains the following fields:

  • Title — a concise name identifying the hazard
  • Description — a detailed explanation of the hazard and how it may arise
  • Who Could Be Harmed — the persons at risk (e.g. riggers, crew, public)
  • Suggested Risk Level — a colour-coded indicator (green for low, amber for medium, red for high)
  • Suggested Controls — recommended control measures to mitigate the hazard

Department Groupings

Hazards are organised into department groups for easy navigation. Typical departments include Audio, Rigging, Lighting, Video, Stage, General, and others specific to the event production and construction industries.

System vs Custom Hazards

  • System hazards — pre-seeded by NexusRMS, read-only, and referenced against HSE codes such as HSG65, INDG163, and other authoritative publications
  • Custom hazards — created by your organisation, fully editable, and available across all your phase plans and RAMS documents

Four Industry Sectors

Sector Hazard Count Examples
Events & Production 35+ Stage collapse, crowd crush, pyrotechnics, temporary structures
AV/Technical 25+ Electrical shock, laser exposure, suspended loads, cable management
Construction/CDM 25+ Excavation collapse, asbestos exposure, scaffold failure, confined spaces
General/Cross-industry 15+ Manual handling, slips and trips, lone working, adverse weather

12 HSE Categories

Every hazard is classified into one of twelve HSE categories aligned with UK Health and Safety Executive guidance:

  1. Working at Height
  2. Electrical
  3. Manual Handling
  4. Slips, Trips & Falls
  5. Machinery
  6. Fire
  7. Noise
  8. Chemical
  9. Environmental
  10. Vehicles
  11. Violence
  12. Other

Auto-Suggestion on Creation

When creating a phase plan, hazards are automatically suggested based on equipment keywords associated with the project. For example, if the project includes items containing the keywords LED, Speaker, Truss, Lighting, Projector, or Stage, the relevant hazards for those equipment types will be pre-selected for your review.

RAMS Document Link

Each selected hazard can optionally reference a specific RAMS document via the rams_document_id pivot field. This creates a direct link between the phase plan hazard and the corresponding RAMS document, enabling full traceability across your safety documentation suite.

Tips

  • Review all auto-suggested hazards carefully — automatic suggestions are based on keywords and may not capture every site-specific risk
  • Add any project-specific hazards that are not in the library using the Risk Assessment tab (Tab 7)
  • Link hazards to RAMS documents where available to demonstrate thorough safety planning
  • Use the search function to quickly locate hazards by keyword across titles and descriptions
