Multi-Stop Route Planning (Advanced Addon)

Multi-Stop Route Planning (Advanced Addon)

Multi-stop route planning is available with the Advanced Transport addon (+£49/mo). It enables you to create a single trip with multiple pickup and dropoff points, with optimised routing to reduce mileage, fuel costs, and driver time.

Concept

Rather than creating separate trips for each delivery, a multi-stop route consolidates multiple destinations into one efficient journey. Each stop can be linked to a different project, allowing a single driver to fulfil several deliveries or collections on the same route.

Trip Stops Model

Each stop within a multi-stop route has the following properties:

  • Sequence number — auto-assigned (1, 2, 3…) and reorderable
  • Stop type — pickup, dropoff, or both (combined pickup and dropoff)
  • Address — full address with GPS coordinates for map placement
  • Contact person — name and phone number for the on-site contact
  • Scheduled arrival and departure — expected time windows
  • Project linkage — each stop can reference a different project

Stop Statuses

Status Description
Pending Stop is scheduled but the driver has not yet departed towards it
En Route Driver is travelling towards this stop
Arrived Driver has arrived at the stop location
Completed All pickup or dropoff actions at this stop are confirmed
Skipped Stop was bypassed — a reason is required

Route Builder Interface

The Advanced Planning page at /transport/advanced-planning provides the full route builder interface. Key elements include:

  • Fleet status panel — shows all vehicles and their current availability
  • Today's schedule view — timeline of all trips for the current day
  • Multi-stop route builder — drag-and-drop interface to add, reorder, and configure stops
  • Live map — interactive map displaying the planned route with all stops marked, estimated distances, and travel times between each point

Time Windows

Each stop can have a scheduled arrival window — for example, "arrive between 09:00 and 10:00". The system highlights stops where the driver is at risk of arriving outside the window based on current progress and traffic estimates. This helps dispatchers proactively manage client expectations.

Route Optimisation

NexusRMS offers AI-powered route optimisation that calculates the most efficient stop ordering. When building a route, click Optimise Route to automatically reorder stops based on distance, time windows, and traffic patterns. You can accept or adjust the suggested order before finalising.

Proof of Delivery Per Stop

Each stop supports its own delivery confirmation, independent of other stops:

  1. Signature — captured from the on-site contact at each location
  2. Photos — photographic evidence of delivered or collected items
  3. Driver notes — observations specific to that stop

Driver Navigation

On the driver's mobile view, Next Stop and Previous Stop buttons allow quick navigation between stops. The current stop is highlighted with its address, contact details, scheduled time, and the list of items to deliver or collect.

Completing Multi-Stop Trips

Each stop is marked individually as completed or skipped. The overall trip is only marked as Completed once every stop has been addressed. If a stop is skipped, the driver must provide a reason and the associated equipment items are flagged for rescheduling. Dispatchers can review the full route summary showing the status of every stop, actual arrival times versus scheduled times, and any exceptions encountered.
